UNFAIR DEBT COLLECTION

If you are behind in paying your bills, or a creditor’s records mistakenly make it appear that you are, a debt collector may be contacting you. Unfortunately, debt collectors can often be abusive, unfair, or deceptive when trying to collect debts.

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act prohibits debt collectors from being too extreme in their tactics. For example, it is illegal for them to contact you before 8 in the morning or after 9 at night unless you agree to it. It is also illegal for debt collectors to pretend to be someone else, like an attorney or government agency, or to harass, threaten, or deceive you.

The lawyers at Western Justice understand what debt collectors can and cannot do when attempting to collect. If you believe that you or a loved one has been unfairly preyed upon by a debt collector, contact us for a free consultation.
